Our food bank seeks to provide a three day food parcel for those who are in need. We gave away 3130 food parcels between September and May 2015. That’s and average of 63 food parcels a week. This figure is just over 600 food parcels more than 2014.
When we analyse the numbers for people listed on the vouchers we can see that the 3130 food parcels were given away to 1378 different people presenting at the door with a voucher. Our vouchers often represent a number of people present within one family. This means that over the last nine months 6000 different mouths have been fed for the 3 day period that a food parcel lasts for. The statistic that continues to concern us is that one third of those being fed are under the age of 16.
Our weekly Drop-in on a Friday, which we run alongside the food bank is providing between 40-50 lunches a week and supporting individuals with various needs that they request assistance with.
We receive our food from different places around Derby – individuals, schools, businesses, churches and other charities all contribute to helping people in crisis. We are thankful for any donation, whether it be food (long shelf life and in date) or money – the more we receive, the better we can ensure we can fill the food parcels all year round. If you are a company, why not partner with us and have one of our food bank boxes in your office? For a list of the food we need click here or for more information just get in touch.
People in need of food can pick up a food voucher from a number of agencies within Derby. We operate on a voucher system only. The food bank is open on Tuesdays from 1pm-3pm and Fridays from 10:30am-1pm each week.
